Unique Engineering and Instrumentation Solutions

Services

PSL provides a range of services including consulting, design, fabrication, and calibration in scientific instrumentation. PSL offers a highly trained staff in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and physics to address the unique needs of projects of every scale and complexity. Below is a description of each group’s specialty.

Electrical Engineering Group

Experienced in the design of power electronics, control systems, high speed analog and digital circuits, and ASICs. Supported by an EECAD system and electronics shop with modern test and production equipment, the group can design and construct scientific instruments including computer interfaces, digital processing modules, fast analog circuits, data acquisition systems, and process and motion control systems.

Mechanical Engineering Group

Experienced in the design and manufacture of tools and equipment for complex multi-function scientific instruments with precise mechanism and design requirements. Ultra-high vacuum, cryogenics, high temperature operation, low or high magnetic properties, high speed, high strength, extreme dimensional stability, non-lubricated moving parts, or other demanding features can be addressed.

Machine Shop

The crown jewel of the PSL facility is the machine shop with its large and small project assembly capabilities including a high bay equipped with a 5-ton traveling bridge crane, a complete ultra-high vacuum facility for fabricating UHV parts, and clean rooms for fabrication of medical grade electronics and devices, as well as leak detection with a high sensitivity helium mass spectrometer leak detector.
