Centrifuge Calibration

Friday, March 8th, 2013

PSL’s expertise goes beyond engineering big projects, to helping labs on campus with technical issues that do not require engineering support.

Andy Arbuckle checked the calibration of 44 centrifuges at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene.  The centrifuges were from 10 different manufacturers and ranged from small bench top units to large floor models.  Andy used a PSL laser tachometer to measure the rotational speed of each centrifuge and determine if the set speed was within ± 5% of the measured value (as required by SLH). He found that all centrifuges were within ± 5% of the set speed with most being  ±1% or less.
