PSL Calibration of Centrifuges

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

PSL Electrical Technician Andy Arbuckle checked the calibration of 44 centrifuges at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene on campus. SLH has a wide variety of centrifuges – from small bench top units to large floor models – from over 10 different manufacturers. The work mainly involved checking the centrifuge speed with a laser tachometer and comparing it with the set point. The speeds of all centrifuges were found to be within +- 5% of the setpoints as required by SLH with most being much more accurate. The time to complete the calibration checks was approximately 16 hours spread over 3 days.
