New Antenna Mount for SSEC

Friday, April 9th, 2010

The Physical Sciences Lab was approached in November of 2009 to see if we were interested in doing an upgrade for an existing antenna frame on the roof of UW-Madison Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences Center (SSEC). After reviewing the drawings and an on site visit discussing the project with Fred Best and Bill Mason, PSL was happy to take on the project. We planned on building most of the steel structure at PSL and doing the final assembly and welding on the roof. We also had to cut out portions of the existing frame to insert the new framework. After we had the new frame in place we assisted in the assembly of the 6.3 meter dish antenna. The installation was completed the second and third week in March under pretty much ideal weather conditions for Wisconsin.
