How do you hold up a dinosaur?

Photo od Edmontosaurus at UW Geology MuseumPSL advised the UW-Madison Geology Museum how best to support the massive 10 meter (33-foot) fossilized Edmontosaurus skeleton in its museum. We made calculations to determine the forces involved, and the placement and sizes of the supports required. PSL Engineer Ken Kriesel proposed suspension by cables from the ceiling as a less visually intrusive alternative to the traditional steel floor stand such as was used for the mastodon.
