Circular Polarized Light Generator
Using Quadruple Reflection 1/4 Wavelength Phase Shifter
Developed to enhance the polarized light capabilities at synchrotron facilities,
this device is compact, easily inserted into existing beamlines and allows for direct passage of
synchrotron light. The polarizer converts light in a plane-polarized beam into a circularly
(left or right) polarized beam by changing the angle of incidence and the normal to the reflection
of the plane of the beam. The device makes use of a 90° phase shift and can be used over an
energy range of 8 to 120 eV. The complete four reflector assembly can be rotated freely about
the beamline axis to change the reflection plane of the beam. It is operated by an external
stepping motor with encoder through a UHV rotary feedthrough. Scan angle calibration is available.
